Let Him In The Mess

“From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalms 61:2

David was real with God. He never held back his feelings. He laid out his complaints and his hurts before the Father because he was real with Him. Do we do the same? Are we real with God? We need to let him into the mess. I like the way Kim Walker-Smith (Singer of Jesus Culture) said when she taught about how we are like a house at a conference.

We frantically clean our homes when people come over! We don’t want anyone to see the messes we created. Jesus walks up to the door and knocks. You open the door and you don’t invite him in. You tell him to stay there while you clean up. “I don’t want you to see the mess”. We shut Jesus out. We try to do things our own way. Kim also talked about how we need to invite Him in. We have to allow Him to sit in the mess with us, and it is okay to not be okay. It is okay to let Jesus in even when your life isn’t “perfect”. In this culture we compare ourselves with others quite often. We want our homes to be “aesthetic” or instagram worthy. We want our lives to be clean and pretty for the camera. But, in real life, it isn’t. We make mistakes, we have bad days. We cannot pretend like God doesn’t see it, because He does. He sees it all, yet He wants to be with you. He wants to sit in the mess with you and help you. Sometimes we just need to let it all go and let Him in. Remember in Genesis 3 when Adam and Eve hid from God? It says.

“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” Genesis 3:8-10

They tried to hide from God. God called out to them even though He saw them. Don’t you think God knew they had sinned? Don’t you think God knew they ran and hid when they heard His voice? Of course HE did! He is God. Yet, He gave them a chance to respond. He gave them a chance to confess, but they didn’t. They hid, and they didn’t let Him fix it. But don’t we do the same? We hide from God as soon as we mess up. We don’t go to God when we sin or when we’re struggling, so the problem gets worse and worse until we finally give God a chance. That’s when you realize you should have given Him permission to come in in the first place, amen? We need to let Him in, even when it’s messy. He longs to be close to you. He loves you! The mess doesn’t bother Him, in fact, when you let Him in, He will help you clean up the mess! He never meant for us to walk this life alone! He is with us.

So be real with God. You won’t regret it. He loves it when you open up your heart (home) to Him.
