How I Study The Bible
“Read your Bible!” People tell us this all the time. But do we actually listen? Do we really read His word? Or do we sign into our Bible apps, look through for a minute then sign out just to get that daily streak? Or do we actually spend time going through the word and taking notes? Do we pray while we read or before we read? This is a problem. God’s word is very important to our everyday lives. Without it, we’re in trouble.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
We grow in faith by reading His word. We have to hear God’s words! I used to have a really hard time reading. I just didn’t enjoy it… I would get confused every time I read the word, or I would get distracted because I got really bored. I know I’m not alone in this. I had to find a way to enjoy reading His word because I knew that it would benefit me. Years ago, way before I got married and moved out, I would stay in my room a lot. Not because I didn’t want to be around anyone, or that I was in trouble, but because that was the place that I would meet with God. I would worship, pray, and read the word. I started to fall in love with Bible journaling and note taking. That’s what really helped me understand the Bible. I would take what I read and put it into my own words and then with the Bible journaling it would help bring out the creativity I had as well.
For some people, they cannot just sit there and read. Sometimes listening to God’s word helps them understand. That’s why I really like the YouVersion Bible app. It helps me if I’m too busy to sit down and read. It has a listening option so I can just do my housework while listening.
So in reality, there really isn’t an excuse not to read His word. With the technology we have today, it is easy to get our hands on the Word. So dig into His word today! You will notice how it changes your mood, your faith, and your day. I try to get into the word first thing in the morning to help my day go by better, and also before bed so that I fall asleep with His word on my mind. Pray that you will desire His word more! Because when you know His word, you start to know Him.
