Has anyone ever had a really hard time getting into God’s presence? I know for the past few weeks I have had a really hard time focusing and laying it down at His feet. I usually play piano every week at church, so I can definitely have the appearance of someone being “worshipful”. But in all reality, I’ve been struggling. I have so much going on in my mind that I am wrestling with. SO many decisions that need to be made, so many what ifs, and so many things to worry about. But isn’t that what worship is for? Worship should be for laying down all those things and receiving peace in the worry, answers in the stillness, and putting the future in His hands. I know that all sounds cliche, but it is true.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Worship isn’t all about us, so the sooner we lay these things down the better we can give Him an offering. When we worship despite all these struggles we are giving Him a sacrifice. Isn’t that amazing? He knows we would rather try to figure it out ourselves and do it our way but when we lay it down to Him and worship Him instead, that gives Him glory!
I think the hard thing about worshiping through the struggle is feeling like you’re a liar or a fake. I know that’s me. “Stop worshiping and saying He is faithful when you feel so doubtful”. “Stop trying to look so holy when you’re clearly not okay”. I think these thoughts are the devil. He wants you to feel so defeated that you turn away from God completely. But we MUST rebuke these voices. You are not a liar or a fake for worshiping in the struggle. Even David worshiped God in the struggle. David went through so many trials yet he praised God. Some of the best worship songs come from the struggle. God is pleased when you worship Him even when you’re in pain.
Worshiping through the struggle will make you stronger and help you to overcome it. God will equipped you to face that fear, tear down that stronghold, and eradicate anxiety.
Worship is the ONE thing we can give back to God. It is what He requires of us. For us to just sit back and cross our arms and check the time during worship sets is not pleasing Him at all. I am sure it dishonors Him. You are refusing to give Him the one thing He wants and that is praise and our lives being laid down to Him. Stand up, worship. Worship destroys pride. It is such a selfless thing to do, you know why? Because it is not all about us, it is about Him! We are lifting His name on high.
So let us worship through that struggle. It is OKAY to not be okay. It is okay to go through hard times, but dust yourself off, stand up, and you worship out of it! Kick that struggle in the face and praise God! He will bring you through it!
